Become that person who loves sunrise runs (and workouts)
Becoming a morning workout queen isn’t about being born a morning person—it’s about preparation, purpose, and coffee (and of course Superhero Muffins too!). Whether you’re chasing a sunrise or simply carving out “you time” before the day begins, these simple habits will help you actually enjoy early morning runs and workouts.
1. Get Organized Before Bed
Set yourself up for success before your head hits the pillow. Lay out your running gear—shoes, layers, gloves, headlamp—the night before. Prep your coffee pot for a 5:30 a.m. brew (save that slow-drip pour-over for the weekend).
If you’re lacing up at sunrise, aim to be in bed reading by 9 p.m. The best early mornings start with an early bedtime.
2. Have a Strong “Why”
When it’s cold, dark, or the snooze button calls your name, your “why” will get you out the door.
Your purpose is stronger than your comfort zone.
For me, running is all about mental health. I’m happier, calmer, more energetic, and full of gratitude when I run. Whatever your reason—stress relief, strength, longevity—hold onto it. It’s your secret power.
3. Fuel Before You Fly
Running on empty = sluggish. Running fueled = strong + happy.
Start small and simple: a Superhero Muffin, a cup of coffee with whole milk, and lemon coconut water (or other fave electrolyte drink). This combo gives your body the energy it needs to crush those early miles—and yes, helps things “move along” before you hit the road. 😉
The right fuel goes a long way toward waking up your metabolism and making those morning miles feel effortless.

4. Recruit a Friend or Join a Class
Everything’s easier (and safer) with a buddy. Text a friend to meet you or join a morning workout class—it’s much harder to bail when someone’s counting on you (or you’ve signed up to attend). Plus, you should never run alone in the dark. As the days get shorter and colder, it’s ok to shift from outside running to gym workouts and indoor strength training.
5. Focus on the Afterglow
That post-workout happiness and energy! Pure magic. You’ll feel calm, strong, and proud before most people have even rolled out of bed. Then comes the best part: breakfast.
That second cup of steaming coffee and your fave recovery meal, tastes even better after a cold wake-me-up run or sweaty workout.
