Hi Superhero Friends,
We recently received a review comparing Superhero Muffins to a less expensive muffin mix, and it raised a fair question:
Why does our mix cost more?
Let’s look at what’s actually inside compared to other brands.
Take Simple Mills Chocolate Muffin Mix. It starts with almond flour but the second ingredient is sugar. The box is just 9 ounces (vs. our 14-ounce bag), makes very small cupcake-tasting muffins (their mix is 33% sugar). The label leaves out the nutrition facts for the baked muffins after you add 1/3 cup of refined oil (vs the butter, eggs and yogurt you can add to our Mixes for a nutrition boost).
Kodiak Protein Chocolate Muffin Mix takes a different approach. Its formula is built around whole-grain wheat flour, cane sugar and vital wheat gluten as a concentrated source of protein (cheap ingredient and hard-to-digest). The front of the box promotes 14 grams of protein but check the serving size: that’s for two prepared muffins, which also delivers 21 grams of sugar. And rather than relying entirely on real spices for flavor, the ingredient list includes “natural flavors.” Natural flavors are extracted from nature but heavily processed in a lab, often mixed with preservatives and hidden additives.
We built Superhero Muffins differently.
Inside our mixes you’ll find ingredients that look a lot more like the foods we stock in our own pantry:
- Almond flour
- Whole-grain gluten-free oats
- Whole dates ground into date powder
- Dehydrated fruits + vegetables + freeze-dried berries
- Chia seeds
- Pumpkin seed protein
- Real spices + real cocoa
And you won’t find added sugar, vital wheat gluten, protein isolates, gums, artificial sweeteners, sugar alcohols, preservatives or “natural flavors.”
Whole-food ingredients like almonds, dates, fruits, vegetables and seeds cost more.
We could formulate a cheaper muffin mix by relying more heavily on refined flours, starches, refined sugar, concentrated protein ingredients and flavors from a lab.
But that’s not the product we wanted to make.
Superhero Muffins were created to be your daily freshly baked fuel—easy to digest and balanced macros to fuel a sunrise workout, active kids or a busy workday.
And each bag makes 12 hearty muffins for about $1.25 each—less than a $3–$4 packaged protein bar or a $6 bakery muffin.
Could we make a cheaper muffin mix? Yes.
But we’d rather make a better one for busy Superheroes like you.
Thanks for baking and sharing Superhero Muffins with your community!
